Mission Viejo programs for school furlough days

Mission Viejo programs, facilities offer perfect alternative during upcoming school furlough days

In light of the upcoming teacher-furlough days implemented in the two school districts serving Mission Viejo, the City’s Recreation and Community Services Department will offer students the following educational and fun summer alternatives.

Kid’s Factory
Kid’s Factory is a fun drop-in recreation program, offering supervised recreational activities. The program is sponsored by the City of Mission Viejo and is designed for kindergarten through six grade students.

On Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) furlough days – June 7, 11, and June 14, the Kids Factory will offer a full-day program from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Del Lago, Del Cerro, Montevideo and Linda Vista elementary schools. All other SVUSD school sites will be closed.

On Capistrano Unified School District’s (CUSD) June 11 furlough day, the program will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Castille Elementary School. All other CUSD Kid’s Factory sites will be closed. CUSD Kid’s Factory sites will maintain their normal operating hours on June 7 and 14. Since this is a drop-in program, parents can drop off and pick up their kids at anytime during a site’s operating hours.

On furlough days, children can attend any open Kid’s Factory site – whether it is SVUSD or CUSD.
Kid’s Factory is free to kids currently enrolled, with a $25 registration fee for kids entering the program. Registration is available on site and online by visiting www.saddlebackrecreation.com.

City recreation facilities
With the unofficial start of summer underway, the City’s recreation facilities are great for staying active and having fun. During furlough days, lifeguard staffing will be bumped up. For non-members, a day pass for children 10 to 13 years of age is $4, while day passes for kids 14 and over is $8.

The Montanoso Recreation & Fitness Center will offer a supervised program for K-6 grades on June 11 and June 14. The program, which will feature arts and crafts and other fun activities, is from 1 to 5 p.m. Cost is $10 for members; $14 for non-members. For more information, call 949-859-4348. Information about the City’s recreation centers is available at www.cityofmissionviejo.org.

SVUSD Recreation Department
On SVUSD teacher-furlough days, the department will offer fee-based day camps for K-8 at RSM Intermediate, Serrano Intermediate and O’Neil schools. For more information, visit www.saddlebackrecreation.com.
